“I’m Trying to Understand You, But”
Zeitaku Binbou, led by playwright/director/actor YAMADA Yuri, was launched in 2012. It produces work that gently links society and theater, capturing the voices of the weak in modern society. “I’m Trying to Understand You, But” is their 15th piece. Teru and her boyfriend Ko are an ordinary couple. One day, they find out Teru is pregnant, and the atmosphere surrounding them starts to shift. That comes to involve her friends as well as maids who for some reason are present in the house. The piece questions what happens when men and women try mutually to understand what they can never understand about the other. It gained attention at the TPAM 2019 Fringe.
